Touché Amoré are gearing up to release their anticipated sixth album Spiral In A Straight Line on October 11 via Rise, and now they’ve shared a list of 23 songs that inspired the album. “The five of us each chose a handful of songs to represent where our taste and inspiration was stemming from over the course of a year while writing and recording Spiral In a Straight Line,” the band says.
The list covers a very wide variety of eras and genres, with songs by Hot Snakes, Galaxie 500, Duran Duran, The Apples In Stereo, Sebadoh, Beulah, Hopesfall, Fontaines DC, Waxahatchee, Ethel Cain, The Police, Killing Joke, ZZ Top, Greet Death, Prefab Sprout, Japan, Duran Duran, Arab Strap, Massive Attack, Osker, and more.
In a comment, someone asked, “Is Nick responsible for The Police? Never thought about it before, but that Andy Summers guitar influence would make sense,” and the band replied with an affirmative green check emoji. Another said, “Jeremy strikes me as Talking Heads or Galaxie 500,” and Jeremy affirmed that too.
Sebadoh’s “Brand New Love” is also referenced on the new album, with Sebadoh’s own Lou Barlow singing an interpolation of the song. Longtime Touché Amoré collaborator Julien Baker appears on the LP too.
See the full list and listen to a playlist of all the songs below, alongside the video for lead single “Nobody’s.”
Touché will also be heading out on tour with killer support from Soul Glo, Portrayal of Guilt, and Soft Blue Shimmer this fall, including a return to The Fest for the first time in 10 years and a Brooklyn show on Halloween (10/31) at Warsaw. All dates are listed below.
